South Beach Restaurant guide February 3, 2010 Ina Jacobson (west palm beach fl USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For one working with the South Beach Diet, the book is a great bible for "eating out". Keep it in the car before selecting your dining plan.
Wish I'd Had This Earlier! October 18, 2009 WiseWoman (South Eastern USA) This guide is better than Weight Watcher's although for a different purpose and diet. Wish I'd had it when it first came out.
Pretty much pointless... September 28, 2009 K.E.D. (California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I LOVE South Beach and have been extremely happy with most of the other books. That said, this one just didn't measure up for me. I don't live in one of the 15 major cities listed in the "travel dining" section of the SBD Dining Guide (that portion alone might have been helpful) and personally found the book to be a waste of money. The same principles regarding food selection are available in resources you probably already have- the South Beach Diet Supercharged book and a chain restaurant's website under "nutrional info". The information included also seems to be inaccurate or, at the very least, incomplete. "Look for soups that have the most vegetables and the fewest starches--Southwest Vegetable Soup is a good option." This is directly from the book, page 32. They then list Southwest Vegetable Soup (same restaurant) AS PHASE 3!!!
[...]
I noticed the same problem more than a few times (throughout the book). It may be that items with low carbs/calories/fat that look wholesome by the numbers contain "forbidden" items but that information isn't included. Food choices with higher "everything" (other than fiber) are frequently listed as Phase 1 while options that appear healthful and "South Beach Friendly" are occasionally shown as Phase 3. I know I'm doing the diet correctly because, while on it, I've lost 10 of my extra 20lbs...Either this book needs an editor to fix the typos or I need more information regarding their reasoning/the ingredients in the recommended dishes.
On the positive side, we only paid about [...] and it DOES save me from having to park myself at the computer to search nutritional info. That alone is worth the extra star- it would've been just one.
Great diet, but it's more fun to be fat! August 16, 2009 J. Blanton (Columbia, SC) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
OK, not really.
The South Beach Diet books are all terrific.
Eating this cuisine is a bit expensive, but, if you follow it, you WILL lose weight!
And the food is good.
(OK, not really as good as Aunt Martha's home cookin', but good. And you'll probably be thinner and live longer, if not happier.)
So. Beach Dining Guide June 26, 2009 P. Hawkins (St. Louis, MO USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A nice handy book to take along with you when you eat out. However, it doesn't really tell you anything you didn't already learn from reading at least one of the other South Beach Diet books, as far as what to eat and what not to eat. Otherwise, a nice reminder to take along with you when you eat out and can take it out and look something up when you are being tempted by the menu.
