Product Description
It's no secret that children are getting fatter: 17% of this country's youth are overweight or obese, and the number of diabetic children has nearly quadrupled in the past thirty years. Now, to help combat the problem, David Zinczenko, editor-in-chief of Men's Health, and co-author Matt Goulding have created Eat This, Not That! for Kids. This must-have guide for concerned parents offers detailed analysis and nutritional tips on thousands of the most popular food choices for kids. Covering the best and worst options available at the most popular restaurants in the country as well as the healthiest—and most harmful—foods in the supermarket aisles, if kids are eating it, this book is probably analyzing it.

Other features include:
-Restaurant Report Cards on the best chain restaurants for your kids
-Drink This, Not That! for Kids
-The 20 Worst Kids’ Meals in America
-10 "Healthy" Foods that Aren't
-The 8 Foods You Should Feed Your Kid Every Day

1 out of 5 stars This book (and the rest of the series) are appalling!   August 17, 2010

I have no idea how the authors expect readers to "be the leanest fittest family on the block" when they're advising people to avoid healthy foods (like omelets) in favor of pancakes in syrup, or to eat sugar laden desserts from Dairy Queen. IN the beginning of the book they decry "frankenfoods" and then go on to recommend that kids be fed processed, simple carb laden crap instead of healthy options, simply because the processed food is lower in calories. Nevermind that the calories and fats in the rejected food are actually BETTER for you because they provide nutrients that the processed alternative doesn't.

The "eat this" portion of these books should be full of whole foods, fruits, vegetables, lean cuts of meat, beans, and other healthy items. Not junk food alternatives to other junk food.

1 out of 5 stars The correct title for this book should be Eat Sh_ _ Not Crud.   July 26, 2010

The fact that this book recommends eating a DQ banana split at more than 70 grams of sugar instead of eating a Baskin Robbins one for over 120 grams of sugar make this a book to leave on the shelves. A sweet treat is fine once in a while but not on a daily basis and certainly not one with over 70 grams of sugar. There are so many other options for a sweet treat that don't have nearly the amount of sugar in them like a piece of fresh fruit, a scoop of a coconut milk frozen dessert (comes in many terrific flavors), a baked apple or other stewed fruit, a delicious bowl of rice pudding made with brown rice, raw milk and sweetened with a little bit of stevia with some whipped cream on top.

I love all of these books. There are so many hidden things in food. We think we are giving our child healthy food only to find out its not good for them. This book is great, I only wish i could remember all the NOT THAT foods when i am shopping. I am making small changes at a time to make my family healthy.

5 out of 5 stars Quick & Easy Reference Guide   June 4, 2010

I like this series b/c the author just puts the most pertinent info out there for you, no fluff or weird jargon or all that other "filler" stuff no one reads anyway. It's purse-sized so you can take it with you to the grocery store and quickly compare the quality of food items you're pondering.

This book is Great! I bought it for two of my grandchildren- 6 and 10, but before I took it to them, my husband and I very much enjoyed learning from it. My son and daughter-in-law also found it very helpful. After initially reading it, they keep it in their car and review before going out to eat and/or the grocery store. I'm going to search for the book for adults and get it for myself!
